In the DreamHack Open Tours group B winners' match, AVANGAR took down FrenchFrogs on Dust2, 16-13, to secure their spot in the playoffs.
A Scout and Deagle force buy on the CT side of Dust2 worked out for FrenchFrogs who took the early lead on the map despite dropping the pistol to the team from Kazakhstan. As the score was 5-2 in favor of FrenchFrogs, Bektiyar "fitch" Bahytov managed a double-entry, punishing CT aggression and helping his side get back into the game.
AVANGAR hit the B site a few times to tie the score at 6-6 and then pulled out an A execute—which worked perfectly—to grab the lead on the offensive side, ending it 9-6 up.
The Frenchmen picked up the second half pistol, but found themselves playing catchup shortly as AVANGAR was dominant on the rifle rounds, giving away only one kill in three rounds (12-8). Dzhami "Jame" Ali and co. then recovered from losing the first kill of the round, disrupting FrenchFrogs as they were putting down the bomb, to push their lead to 14-8.
Ali "hAdji" Haïnouss's team then finally won their first rifle round of the second half, walking up short and getting a clean entry on Jame, but no momentum was built as Alexey "Qikert" Golubev got a triple kill on the A site defense, salvaging the round for his side (15-9). AVANGAR struggled to close out the match, with the French side bringing the score to 15-13, but finally managed to do so with a three-man short setup that locked down the approaches and got them a place in the playoffs.
